ID Released For Man Who Died After Boat Overturned In Long Island Sound

Officials have identified the person killed when a 17-foot-boat overturned in Long Island Sound.

Eul Lee, 64, from Fort Lee, New Jersey, was killed during a boating accident in Long Island Sound on Sunday, Nov. 3, said the  Department of Energy and Environmental Protection State Environmental Conservation Police.

The incident took place around 9:45 a.m. when four people were fishing from a vessel in the vicinity of the Stratford Shoals (Middle Ground) Light Station when the vessel capsized, EnCon officials said.

Bridgeport Police, Fairfield Police and the U.S. Coast Guard Eaton’s Neck responded to the scene.

The Coast Guard rescued Jack Phommachanh, 65, from North Haven, and Bill Chanthavone, 66, and Thipada Ngaoluangrath, 67, both from Bridgeport.

The three men were transported to Bridgeport Hospital and later released. 

Bridgeport Police recovered Lee, in the water southwest of the Middle Ground Lighthouse. He was pronounced dead at Bridgeport Hospital.

Bridgeport Police, along with the Suffolk County Police (New York) and the U.S. Coast Guard, are assisting EnCon Police with the ongoing investigation.
